Now fifty releases into their story, Finnish independent dance imprint Youth Control prepares to celebrate a decade of one of its most prominent musical figures. Helsinki’s Rony Rex has become a fundamental member of the Youth Control family since his first release on the label in 2017 with ‘Sticky Fingers’, bringing his raucous blend of bottom-heavy basslines, quirky sampling and head-turning musicality with every release. As Rony prepares to mark a decade of sharing his undeniably unique sonic formula with the world, what better place to honour ten years of one of Helsinki’s finest musical exports than Youth Control Records? Download/stream it from 29th September via: https://youthcontrol.fanlink.to/RonyRex10.
Rony Rex’s ‘10’ compilation features an impressive combination of ten cuts, old and new, including some exciting collaborations and a few of his favourite jams from the archives. From the more recently released ‘True Religion’ and ‘Limbo’, featuring US lyricist Dances With White Girls, to his inaugural release on Youth Control, ‘Sticky Fingers’, you can expect to absorb the evolutionary musical progression of Rony’s career over the last decade throughout the release. An impressive timeline of boisterous dancefloor heaters, including ‘Milk It’ feat. Carla Monroe, ‘Mona Lisa’ feat. New Ro, ‘Lift Yo Legs’, and several others, the compilation also features Rony’s latest creation, ‘Feeling Myself’, as the perfect veneer on an extraordinary body of work.
Rony Rex, who first cut his teeth as a dynamic DJ, is now an established, innovative producer on the world stage. As one of Finland’s hottest tastemakers hosting a show on the influential station YLEX (the Finnish BBC 1 equivalent), his style oozes with bubbly, quirky and housey influences, is heavily club-focused, and can’t help but flirt with pop and indie soundscapes.
A catalogue of successful and off-the-wall releases sits under Rony’s belt on labels such as Youth Control and Needwant. ‘Milk It’ featuring hit songwriter Carla Monroe was a hit on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, playlisted on Diplo’s Revolution on SiriusXM and had massive sync success with brands including Yves Saint Laurent, Nickelodeon and O2. ‘Mona Lisa’ was another sync hit with Stella McCartney, while ‘Fucked It Up’ (Gas Gas Remix) was huge in China, with over 80 million streams via the nation’s Netease streaming platform.
Youth Control is one of Finland’s leading indie dance music labels. It is a real breeding ground for new talent and a home to big names like Roisto, Disco Despair, Per2, founders TJH87 and Terminé. It is also a publisher and party brand that has turned the heads of tastemakers like Armand Van Helden, Steve Aoki and Todd Edwards, plus BBC Radio 1, Billboard and Kiss FM. This is the latest in a hot run of new singles that have reached new highs for Youth Control.
