Yaya

Keeping up an impressive run of form that has seen recent releases from the likes of Funk Cartel, Alessandro Diruggiero, Tomi&Kesh, Copasetic, Italobros and, of course, label frontman wAFF himself, NATURE continues to thrive with its latest release as it prepares to welcome Tamango Records boss Yaya for his label debut with the groove-laden ‘Me Gusta’ EP on 11th October. The title cut ‘Me Gusta’ kicks things off with chunky drum grooves, swinging analogue bass, catchy vocal chops and shuffled percussive drive accented by quirky sample shots, providing the first slice of Yaya’s unique sonic identity. ‘Logic Routine’ comes next, bringing punchy beats, jacking percussive flair and more cathartic analogue low-end weight, complemented by subtle, spaced-out melodic injections before ‘Maximo Delicioso’ bridges the gap into the second half of the EP with an eerie, bouncy persona, building around another groovy bassline and rippling musicality.

‘Blocked’ features brighter, more vivid harmonics and textures whilst retaining Yaya’s archetypally minimal sound. A robust roller with a cleverly constructed array of funky sounds that bounce off its endlessly danceable core. ‘Step Mode’ rounds off the release emphatically with another percussive-heavy delight. Orbiting a funky bassline melody centrepiece, you’re treated to another exhibition of Yaya’s immense understanding of intricate instrumental placement to create energetic, movement-inspiring grooves delicately complemented by rich and immersive melodic factors.

Yaya, the founder of Tamango Records, blends his African roots with Italian influences to create a unique presence in the electronic music scene. Raised in Turin, Yaya was deeply influenced by his father’s role in the “M’bamina” ensemble, which sparked his early passion for rhythm and led him to perform as a drummer. Since joining Desolat in 2009, Yaya has become a global DJ, playing at top European clubs and festivals. A prolific producer, he launched Tamango Records in 2016, featuring notable artists like Loco Dice, Enzo Siragusa, and Cuartero.
