Unveiling the History of Drum & Bass with Symphonica at XOYO Birmingham

Symphonica

Symphonica, the hybrid Orchestral/DJ project founded by composer Miles Hancock and DMC World DJ champion Mr Switch, are set to deliver an immersive and nostalgic performance when the event touches down at XOYO Birmingham on Friday, 11th October. Combining a whole orchestra with a world-champion DJ, Symphonica will tear through the history of Drum & Bass to recreate the iconic genre in a unique format. Already festival favourites at Glastonbury and Boomtown, Symphonica has been breaking new ground by blending classical and electronic music since 2015. Now, they’re taking it to the next level as they merge the dancefloor’s energy with the concert hall’s elegance, offering an experience that’s part history lesson, part adrenaline rush - delivered with passion and precision. This isn’t a typical performance - it’s a collision of musical worlds. Symphonica doesn’t just perform Drum & Bass - they reshape it, breathing new life into timeless anthems while creating fresh, original compositions that leave guests speechless.

Under the creative direction of visionary composer and conductor Miles Hancock, who also plays a pivotal role as founder of the internationally-touring 20-piece Jazz Colossus, alongside four-time DMC World Champion Mr Switch filling the DJ role, Symphonica brings the evolution of Drum & Bass and Jungle to life. From its underground beginnings to its cutting-edge present, witness iconic tracks reimagined through the power of strings, brass, and live orchestration combined with backing beats, basslines and scratching skills.

Since its debut in September 2023, XOYO Birmingham has rapidly established itself as a premier nightlife destination. This new venue has swiftly captured the essence of Birmingham’s vibrant club scene, offering top-tier electronic dance music experiences. Drawing inspiration from its renowned London sibling, XOYO Birmingham has successfully crafted its own distinct identity within the city’s bustling after-dark landscape.
