A caution has been raised regarding the presence of strong MDMA pills in circulation in the UK following several hospital admissions.
The Loop, a charity in the UK that focuses on drug checking and harm reduction, has released a cautionary statement regarding the presence of abnormally potent MDMA pills in circulation. This warning comes after several individuals were hospitalised over the past weekend.
The Loop, on Friday (18th October), shared a post urging clubbers to be cautious when using MDMA and emphasised the need to avoid mixing drugs. Test results from different batches of pills - such as Pink Timberlands, Purple Louis Vuittons and Purple Pop Smokes - taken between 11th and 13th October showed differences in potency. About one in four pills contained 200mg of MDMA, which is twice the recommended adult dose.
According to The Loop, to avoid any potential risks, wait for at least 90 minutes before taking another dose while using the hashtags "#TakeQuarterSipWater" and "#GoSlowStayLow." They also suggest taking regular breaks while dancing and caution against symptoms such as elevated body temperature, excessive sweating, muscle stiffness, unresponsiveness, and seizures.
According to fabric, there have been reports of hospitalisations in various London venues last weekend, where individuals experienced seizures and fell seriously ill. The establishment also issued a statement addressing these incidents on their social media channels.
Although the exact reasons for each incident are uncertain, they may be linked to the availability of particularly potent pills or MDMA in the market. A standard high dose is typically 200mg, but there have been reports of some pills containing more than 300mg, which poses a significant risk of overdose.
If you are unsure, please refrain from taking any action. Take care of yourselves and one another. If you or a companion feel unwell while at fabric, please approach any staff member—we will not pass judgment on anyone.
The welfare team can be identified by their bright red armbands and T-shirts. They are located throughout the club and in the welfare centre next to the designated smoking area. Additionally, they can be contacted via WhatsApp at +44 (0)7453554961 at any point during the event.
As DJ Mag reported, The Loop introduced the first routine drug-checking service in the UK this January in Bristol.
In April, two organisations, Pill Report and The Loop, raised concerns about a potential "fentanyl-style outbreak" caused by the presence of dangerously potent counterfeit benzos in circulation in the United Kingdom. At the start of festival season, The Loop also issued a similar cautionary statement regarding the increased strength of MDMA, which was found to be "significantly higher".
