Ahead of her permanent move to the UK this summer, rising Naarm (Melbourne) based producer, vocalist and DJ Pretty Girl today shares her ethereal new single ‘Inside’. PG’s specialist trance-tinged strain of lo-fi house is on display in the track which came together intuitively while she was working on the track in London, marked by astral pads, a bold bassline and purring vocals as Pretty Girl explains:
“Often it takes me years to write a song because the elements and narrative will come together slowly as I live my life. I pulled bits and pieces of this song from years of demos, mostly the lyrics and the acid line. One day in London last year I was working on the song and I just thought “sexy and simple”, wrote the bassline, and Inside became a single. I know I’m doing the right thing when a song feels like it’s making itself, and from there on, the song came together intuitively.”
Music is a portal for Pretty Girl, who invites you into her world through left-field infusions of house, UKG, and techno, pairing all her productions with dreamlike, gossamer vocals. Over the past two years the producer, singer, and DJ has been making a splash on both sides of the globe with her captivating live set, playing a live set at Boiler Room Melbourne, supporting Bonobo and Fred again.., selling out her Australia-wide headline tour, and making her way to the UK.
Her 2023 UK tour provided new ground for PG to work her magic live set and diverse DJ sets. Notable shows include a sold-out headline live show at Phonox London, live sets at AVA Belfast, Lost Village and All Points east, as well as DJ sets at Glastonbury, DC10 Ibiza, and the iconic Mixmag Lab. The live set and the DJ set are both experiences of their own, showcasing PG’s versatility as an artist; able to create vast and deep soundscapes in real-time with hardware and her own vocals whilst playing live, and able to take a dancefloor higher with her DJ set. With two EPs, five singles, several million Spotify streams, and remixes for acclaimed artists such as Romy and George Fitzgerald under her belt, PG’s discography points to an artist who knows her sound and knows how to execute it.
