Launched towards the end of 2022, SPIL RECORDS and its founder Jack Swift set about to make waves by launching a new project into the mix, with support from the off from likes of Enzo Siragusa, Chris Stussy, Rossko and more. Promising a healthy dose of high-quality cuts with influences from house and garage mirroring his early years listening to London’s pirate radio stations, the launch EP from Swift showcased what to expect with a powerful selection of slick productions, with remixes from garage icon Jeremy Sylvester and Inermu head James Dexter. Returning to deliver the first material of 2023 on the imprint, the label boss steps up again with two fresh cuts across his ‘Terminal’ EP - with remixes provided by Make You Move Records co-founder Devstar and Council Work Records head Tom Frankel.
Opening with authority, the driving ‘Terminal’ is a dynamic lead cut with skippy percussion, warped vocals and rich stabs, providing a low-end heavy anthem packed full of garage cues and nuances, while second original ‘Highrise’ is a sun-soaked and shimmering production guided by snaking grooves, hazy melodies and soulful samples. Turning in the first remix, Devstar’s ‘Feel The Vibe’ take on ‘Highrise’ brings a bumping bassline and vibrant organ stabs to proceedings, while Tom Frankel journeys towards darker, murky territories in his typically rugged interpretation to close the show.
