Peggy Gou Teases Debut Album 'I Hear You' With New Single '1+1=11'

Peggy Gou

Peggy Gou has revealed information about her first album, ' I Hear You'. The first track, '1+1=11', can be heard below.

Scheduled to be unveiled on June 7th through XL Recordings, the ten-song LP represents the pinnacle of the South Korean DJ and musician's accomplishments thus far. Gou stated, "'I Hear You' goes beyond being my first album. It encompasses numerous hours of hard work in my pursuit to produce something timeless, and serves as evidence of the significance of listening, both to ourselves and to one another," when discussing the album's debut.

The upcoming release will include two tracks: a collaboration between Peggy Gou and Lenny Kravitz titled 'I Believe In Love Again' and the 2023 hit '(It Goes Like) Nanana' which reached the top of the charts.

The equation '1+1=11' is accompanied by a visual representation created by Olafur Eliasson, an Icelandic-Danish artist and close friend of Gou. Eliasson also designed the "ring of ears" featured on the album cover (shown in the image above). Gou's opening track, 'Your Art', includes a modified version of Eliasson's poem, 'Your Planet Seen From Within'.

According to Eliasson, both sculpture and dance are forms of non-verbal communication. He believes that sometimes movement is the best way to convey a message. This was evident when he met Peggy for the first time. During their lunch, they discussed their mutual interests in psychosonics, rhythm, and movement. Eliasson stood up and danced in the restaurant to demonstrate the movements he was discussing.

He expressed his excitement when she invited him to dance in a video for an upcoming release and to create a visual style for it. Combining dance, which explores space through the body, with vibrant shadows, lights, and mirrors, allowed him to incorporate his long-standing artistic interests into a completely new setting. Collaborating on this project has been fulfilling and enjoyable.
