According to a recent report by SoundCloud, the platform's most active users are fans of electronic music.
During a panel at this year's Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), SoundCloud shared data on the engagement of electronic music fans on their platform. It was also disclosed that these fans tend to comment, share and repost music, with percentages of 52%, 104% and 85% respectively. This information was revealed during a discussion between representatives of SoundCloud and Mau P, a Dutch DJ/producer.
One of SoundCloud's main selling points is its unique feature of connecting artists directly to their fans. According to data, this feature has gained even more popularity among producers, especially those in the electronic music scene, in recent years. There is projected to be a 21% increase in electronic music uploads this year compared to 2023. In addition, there has been a 6% rise in electronic music plays since 2022, and these genres are expected to make up 22% of all plays this year.
At IMS Ibiza, Jack Bridges from SoundCloud mentioned that many artists and labels turn to the platform in its early stages to create and promote their music by directly communicating with their fans through the available tools.
According to reports, house music claimed the first position regarding the number of plays, listening duration, and audience size. Hardcore secured the second spot for plays and listening duration. Trance ranked second in audience size and third for plays and listening duration. Additionally, it was noted that Trance was the genre with the highest growth rate on the platform, with a 24% increase in listening duration and an 11% growth in listeners since 2023.
In January of this year, it was declared that SoundCloud would be put up for sale at a value exceeding $1bn. Furthermore, SoundCloud unveiled a fresh merchandise store that allows artists to retain all of their profits.
