Mathias Schaffhäuser is a longstanding electronic music producer whose back catalogue extends back to the ‘90s and includes music on labels such as Kompakt, Souvenir Music and Third Ear Recordings.
He is a highly respected artist who has an eclectic style that is often deep and techy with stripped-back grooves, but he isn’t afraid to experiment with different tempos and sounds. Mathias Schaffhäuser’s latest release sees him revisit a classic track called “6 Uhr Morgens” that is taken from his 1999 album Lido Hotel.
6 Uhr Morgens was originally released as a dub, but Mathias Schaffhäuser has decided to add a vocal, and create three reworked versions inspired by the new lyrics. The vocals were written and performed by him, which adds a personal touch to this updated version of the track.
There is also a remix from Pawas who is an indie dance artist known for his links to labels such as Spectral Sound, Get Physical, Seven Villas and Compost. He adds a trippy remix with an ‘80s vibe to the release, which contrasts nicely with the versions produced by Mathias Schaffhäuser.
The ‘Vocal Club Version’ opens the release with its mind-bending bassline and murky pads that are layered with breakbeat percussion rhythms. The tempo drops when the woozy vocals are introduced, and they add to the track’s trippy vibe.
Pawas' remix adds a new melody and acid-tinged textures that complement the melodic progression of the vocals, but it’s his prominent snare and chugging bassline that really define his remix.
