Marlò Makes Bold Statement with MidiTrip Records Debut and ‘Rave Is Now’ EP

Person with straight hair in sunglasses and black leather jacket stands against a dark background, exuding a cool, confident vibe.

Marlò has opened an exciting new chapter in her career with the launch of MidiTrip Records, a label co-founded with Salih Topuz. Her debut release, the Rave Is Now EP, is a love letter to the late ’80s and early ’90s rave scene, delivering three tracks packed with nostalgic energy and modern dancefloor appeal. Featuring classic analogue sounds and a fresh perspective, Marlò’s first foray into label ownership highlights her dedication to the underground music she holds dear. Speaking about the motivation behind the EP and the label, Marlò explains, “Rave Is Now is an EP that aims to capture the vibe of rave music from the ’80s and ’90s, a genre I absolutely love. This is the real music—the music that originated in warehouses and underground scenes. It combines the raw energy of techno with melodic elements like pianos and emotional synths, which give tracks a sense of meaning. That’s the ethos of both the EP and the label.”

The title track, Rave Is Now, sets the tone with gritty synth hooks, crunchy drums, and choppy stabs, reminiscent of early rave sounds but reimagined for modern dancefloors. The second track, You, delivers shimmering piano lines and a bumpy bassline, while What Is That? closes the EP with cinematic flair, featuring trance-tinged synths and airy arpeggios.

Marlò’s love for electronic music started in her hometown of Chieti, Italy, and blossomed in Bologna, where she gained experience working with the LED X collective and Slow Motion Records. These opportunities allowed her to cut her teeth in legendary venues like Tipografia in Pescara and Link in Bologna. After moving to Istanbul at 22 for her master’s degree, Marlò quickly became a key figure in Turkey’s electronic music scene. “When I arrived, there weren’t many female DJs in Turkey; I was one of the first. I became a resident at Suma Beach, where I played alongside internationally renowned DJs and performed at some of the country’s biggest festivals,” she reflects.

Currently a resident at Istanbul’s historic MiniMuzikhol and a host of a weekly radio show on Radio 2019, Marlò continues to push boundaries with her eclectic sound. “I don’t like to define myself by one genre,” she says. “I play what I love, adapting to the vibe of the dancefloor.”

The Rave Is Now EP has already garnered support from influential names like DJ Harvey, Jamie Jones, and Elevate Berlin, signalling a promising start for MidiTrip Records. Looking ahead, Marlò reveals plans for the label’s next release: “We have another EP coming out next month featuring tracks by myself and Salih, and later this spring, we’ll release our second vinyl EP. There’s also an exciting collaboration with some Italian producer friends, but I can’t share more details just yet!”

On the live front, Marlò is gearing up for a string of shows, including her debut at London’s iconic fabric club in February. “Playing at Fabric has always been a dream of mine, so this gig is very special,” she says with palpable excitement.

Beyond the studio and the DJ booth, Marlò has found joy in personal growth, discovering the power of meditation in 2024. “I’ve never been very spiritual, but meditation has helped me find balance and clarity in my goals,” she shares. “It’s brought me a sense of peace that has positively influenced my work and relationships. I hope to carry this energy into 2025, inspiring and uplifting those around me.”

With a thrilling EP, a promising label launch, and a clear vision for the future, Marlò is set to make 2025 a standout year for herself and the electronic music community she’s helping to shape.
