Marie Vaunt has carved a distinctive space in the electronic music world since her breakout track Witchcraft in 2018. The Japanese American producer and DJ burst onto the scene with her dark, acid-driven techno sound, earning widespread recognition and opening doors to collaborations with major labels like Drumcode, Arcane, and Kneaded Pains. Now, with over 7.6 million Spotify streams and a busy tour schedule ahead, Marie continues to push boundaries and evolve her artistry.
Reflecting on Witchcraft, Marie shares how it marked a turning point in her career. “It was the first techno track I released, and I wanted to capture a dark, otherworldly energy,” she explains. “It was an experiment in stepping outside my comfort zone, and when it resonated with listeners, it connected me to a global audience who shared my love for the darker side of music.”
Fast-forward to 2025, and Marie is set to release Secrets, her highly anticipated two-track EP on Eli Brown’s Arcane label. The EP showcases her signature acid-heavy sound with a twist of 90s dance nostalgia. The title track, Secrets, delivers thunderous basslines and looping synths, while This Is How blends vintage house vocals and breakbeats with modern production. “The 90s were transformative for dance music, and I’ve always felt a connection to that raw energy,” says Marie. “With This Is How, I wanted to pay homage to that era while exploring new dimensions of my sound.”

Marie’s ability to stay true to her style while adapting to diverse labels has been key to her success. “Every label has its own ethos, but I see it as a collaboration, not a compromise,” she says. Her dedication has led to milestones like charting three tracks simultaneously on Beatport and hitting #1 on the Techno Peak Time chart with Darkroom. “Darkroom stood out because of its blend of traditional Japanese instruments and folklore-inspired vocals with hard-hitting kicks and acid elements,” she explains.
On stage, Marie’s performances are a journey of sound and connection. With upcoming shows at Dreamstate San Francisco, EDC Las Vegas, and more, she’s focused on crafting unique experiences. “Preparation is about balancing my personal sound with the energy of the event,” she says. “Once I’m on stage, I feed off the crowd and let instinct take over.” She cites her performance at Creamfields as a career highlight: “Standing on that huge stage with thousands of people moving to my music was surreal. It’s a memory I’ll carry with me forever.”
Marie’s remix work is equally impressive, with reimagined tracks for ASY*S and Kai Tracid among her credits. “When I approach a remix, I aim to honour the original while introducing my own perspective,” she notes. This balance of familiarity and transformation has become a hallmark of her artistry.
Streaming platforms have played a crucial role in Marie’s rise, but she remains focused on authenticity. “Streaming has democratised music access, but it’s also a competitive space,” she reflects. “I focus on releasing music that resonates with me rather than chasing algorithms.”
With Secrets dropping on January 24th and a lineup of acid bangers set to release later this year on Kurai Records, 2025 promises to be another landmark year for Marie Vaunt. “I’ve got collaborations with some artists I truly admire and so much more in the works,” she teases. “I can’t wait for everyone to hear what’s coming.”
