LUMI Returns with Sultry New EP 'Lush' on Octopus Recordings

Finnish DJ and producer LUMI quickly caught attention in 2024 with her chunky, rolling dance tracks and fresh vocal style. LUMI describes her sound as “groovy, sultry, energetic, and at times attitude,” perfectly capturing the essence of her latest EP. Title track ‘Lush’ combines a fearsome bassline with hypnotic vocals and icy synths, balancing dark intensity with funky minimal vibes. “I usually start with a vocal and then build a loop around that or vice versa,” she explains, highlighting her dynamic approach to production. “Then it’s easier to place sounds and create an arrangement.” Her meticulous process is evident throughout the EP, where layers blend seamlessly to create an infectious energy.

On the flip side, ‘Party Girl’ packs a punch, showcasing LUMI’s confident lyricism over a driving rhythm section, cleverly mixed with lush string elements. The track exemplifies her growing focus on house music, a deliberate shift she's excited about. “I am striving to explore house much more this year than I have previously,” she shares, clearly enthusiastic about her musical evolution. Fans familiar with her previous releases will note this nuanced shift, highlighting her versatility and commitment to artistic growth.

Her rise in the electronic scene has seen LUMI tour extensively across Europe, including key dates in Berlin at Ritter Butzke and About Blank alongside renowned artist Tiga. “I would love to play in the UK, Netherlands, and Spain,” she says, outlining her ambitions clearly. “ADE is top of my list, as well as venues in Ibiza.” As she prepares for her Australian debut at Rabbits Eat Lettuce Festival in April, followed by Finland’s Sound Vault Festival in July, LUMI’s international presence is rapidly expanding.

Reflecting on her journey, LUMI credits her success to sheer hard work and dedication, advising aspiring artists: “It really comes down to how hard you are willing to work.
