Following the release of his ‘Just The 1’ EP on Mason Collective’s Whippin label in 2022, increasingly popular London-based DJ/Producer Luke Dean unveils his next studio production, released on 28th April 2023 in the form of an immersive four-track EP on George Smeddles’ South Records imprint titled ‘Sounding Different’.

Opening with ‘Sounding A Bit 90s’, the EP gets underway with an engrossing slice of nostalgia. Reminiscent of one of the golden eras of dance, it comes in hot with firm beats, energetic percussion, hooking melodies and head-turning vocal segments - this one is a real toe-tapper!
‘How You Baby’ follows with punchy drum work and swinging hat grooves from the outset. Riding a wave of thickened bass notes and resonant organ lines, its funky personality provides a constant ebb and flow of danceable sections and refreshing breaks from start to finish.
‘Strictly Different’ rediscovers that rambunctious 90s flavour, loaded with a rolling bassline, pulsating synths, piercing hat sequences and attitude-laden rap vocals with soulful licks. Prime time dancefloor energy with instant throwback appeal is the only way you can describe this absolute heater.
‘Going On’ closes the release with a quirky twist, blending chunky deep tech flavours with glitchy fills, farfetched melodic elements and playful vox chops throughout. Besides its outlandishness, its core of groove-focused club-ready goodness provides a dynamic contrast and a unique selection for any packed dancefloor.
Luke Dean’s ‘Sounding Different’ EP is available now on South Records.
