With ‘Nancy Junglist’, JAEL ventures into new territory, transforming a beloved genre with his innovative sound. The track samples the legendary ‘Bam Bam’ by Sister Nancy, whose voice has been immortalized by artists like Jay-Z, Groove Armada, and Lauryn Hill. This marks the first time Sister Nancy has approved a Jungle/D&B version of her iconic record, making ‘Nancy Junglist’ a groundbreaking release.
JAEL, who has consistently delivered club hits, showcases his remarkable talent and refined heavy sound in this latest single, crafted for the global dancefloor. Reflecting on the creation of ‘Nancy Junglist’, JAEL shares:
“Right after playing a set in Montpellier, I was preparing for my Boiler Room Set in London the very next day. I was looking to create a secret weapon to shake the room and had Sister Nancy’s Bam Bam vocal loop in my mind. I immediately started to loop the ‘Bam bam bam bam bam’ and heard the crazy Jungle drums with a touch of Drum And Bass in my mind, along with a heavy bass line. Before I knew it, it was 7:30AM and I had to catch my flight to London for my 2PM set. I decided to play my demo to test it out mid-set, and the reaction was MAD. From that moment, I knew that I made a banger.”
Growing up immersed in a diverse array of genres including Moluccan folk, gospel, soul, and Japanese funk, JAEL’s energetic performance style is deeply influenced by his vibrant musical background. He has received widespread international acclaim for his live instrumentation and DJ skills, performing at prestigious events such as the Boiler Room Festival (AMS) and headlining at O2 Brixton. JAEL has also toured extensively across South Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
His monthly radio show, CAROUSEL JAEL, on London’s renowned station Rinse FM, gained massive popularity before he released his debut album, ‘Half as Much’. JAEL also featured on Juls’ track ‘Close To Me Together’ alongside Wizkid & Agent Sasco.
