Interview: Getting to Know V-House Sound Label Boss AJ Christou

Launched earlier this year at the start of July, AJ Christou’s burgeoning V-House Sound imprint has already welcomed a wealth of support with its inaugural two releases, with the newly minted label racking up love from Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, Loco Dice and Seth Troxler amongst many.

Having worked alongside Miami’s Amal Nemer on his last single, ‘Wild Mind’, he takes things back to the home turf and welcomes a big collaboration with Manchester’s finest as close friends Mason Collective join the label for ‘Samburu’. You can download/stream it here: https://snd.click/VHS003.

To celebrate his latest work, we caught up with AJ for a chat about his label, latest work, artists to watch out for, and plenty more:

Hey AJ, thanks for joining us. Tell us what you’ve been up to the last couple of weeks.

Hey guys, thank you for having me. I’ve actually just got back from the Middle East; I had some shows in Riyadh and Bahrain, which were amazing.

You launched your V-House Sound label earlier this year. Talk us through the journey from the initial idea and shaping it into something tangible and your goals for it going forward.

So the label V-House actually started as a clothing line that has been around for about four years now. I was itching to start my own label and release all this music I was sitting on, so I decided to start the record label to run alongside it. Music and fashion go hand in hand, so it made sense for me to do this.

What can you tell us about your latest release, the third offering on your new label, ‘Samburu’, a collaboration alongside Mason Collective? How did the track come to be?

This one is a special one for me. The Mason boys and I have been friends for years. We started our career under the same roof at Sankeys in Manchester, and we just decided it was time to put some music out together. We’ve made a lot of records, but this will be our first official release.

How has the response to your new label project been?

Honestly, it’s been amazing. I couldn’t be happier, and the support from everyone has been incredible. It’s by far the best decision I’ve made all year, and I am looking forward to the future of the label.

What has been your touring highlight of 2023?

It’s really hard to pinpoint a specific moment because all have been special in their own way, but if I have to pick, I would say playing for BabaLoop in Thailand. It was always a dream to go to that part of the world, and it didn’t disappoint. I’m gonna be back there for NYE, too; I can’t wait.

What emerging artists should we be keeping an eye on?

It’s gotta be Calvin Clarke, Fletch, Vito & Tre Reynolds.

What can you tell us about any future V-House Sound releases?

All I can say is I have lots of music coming for everyone and some really special collaborations, which I can’t wait to share.

Lastly, what can we expect from you over the rest of 2023 and into 2024?

I have a lot of music coming out on some bucket list labels over the next 12 months, plus some on my own label, so expect lots of music, and I look forward to seeing everyone on the dancefloor!
