Ilona Maras starts 2025 with a statement techno release on the We Are The Brave record label run by Alan Fitzpatrick.
This Is Your Diss is a four-track EP with raw drum sounds and impactful synths that infuse the release with upbeat energy that’s tailor made for a dance floor.
Hailing from Montenegro, but based in Zürich (Switzerland), Ilona Maras is a force to be reckoned with, as her momentum within the techno scene continues to grow. She had already made a name for herself with house music releases on the likes of Get Physical, and has seamlessly transitioned to releasing techno through Riot, MJA the Vision, and Filth on Acid.
This is her first time working with We Are The Brave, and it seems safe to assume it’s the first of many high-profile releases that Ilona Maras has planned for the new year.
“No Sleep Baby” is a bone-rattling opener that combines tense stabs with heavy-percussion and an earth-shaking bassline. “Poisoned Wine” is a euphoric techno track with spellbinding vocals and juddering stabs underscored by pounding drums. “New York Undercover” has a stripped-back sound layering old-school synths with thickset percussion and some atmospheric vocal textures. “This is Your Diss” brings the release to a close with its jazzy groove full of machine funk and familiar sounding vocals.
