London’s iconic nightclub fabric has unveiled a major upgrade to its Room 1 dancefloor—the first transformation of its kind since the venue opened in 1999. The upgrade marks the final stage of an extensive renovation, enhancing the club’s legendary BodyKinetic dancefloor with cutting-edge technology.
A core part of fabric’s identity, the original floor featured Bodysonic transducers that allowed clubbers to feel the bass physically, creating a deeply immersive experience. Now, fabric has taken this concept further with the integration of Powersoft’s Moving Magnet linear transducers, known as Movers. These advanced units provide a more precise and consistent tactile experience while requiring only 36 units compared to the previous system’s 450.
Matt Smith, fabric’s technical manager, described the upgrade as an evolution rather than just an improvement: “We’ve respected the floor’s history while making it even more immersive. The power, precision, and consistency are unmatched, enhancing the visceral connection between dancers and the music.”
Beyond improving sound and feel, the new system also prioritises accessibility. In collaboration with Deaf Rave, fabric is fine-tuning the vibrations to enhance the experience for individuals with hearing impairments.

The upgraded dancefloor will also play a key role in fabric’s new partnership with Mastery Quantum Sound, an initiative blending meditation with live electronic music. This residency, launching in March 2024, will see artists such as Daniel Avery, Hannah Holland, and Flora Yin Wong curate immersive sound meditation events, culminating in a special performance in June 2025.
This project was made possible with support from Powersoft, Quantum, Ajax Flooring, Sterling Groundwork, Deaf Rave, and the National Lottery through Arts Council England. With this upgrade, fabric continues to push boundaries, ensuring Room 1 remains one of the most immersive dancefloors in the world.
