Ernesto & the Basement Gospel unveil deep, vocal house single 'Is It True?' with remixes by Atjazz, Peacey & Dirtytwo

Since the mid 90s brilliant vocalist / producer Ernesto has been tickling our ears, whether as collaborator on the incredible Swell Session project with fellow Swedish producer Andreas Saag, Vocalising many artist/producer’s works or releasing sharp and glitchy electronic beats as Pinku Vääty.


The man known as Jonatan Bäckelie now makes this impressive comeback with 'Is It True?' under his Ernesto & the Basement Gospel moniker, featuring a rich blend of low-slung beats and intricate musical arrangements that highlight his angelic vocals. The release is further enhanced by a diverse extended remix package from label mates Atjazz and Peacey, as well as Swedish production duo Dirtytwo, each remix illuminating different aspects of the original while maintaining its captivating vocal flow and strong hook.

Jonatan Bäckelie has been an influential and transformative figure in the vibrant Gothenburg music scene, particularly during the notable Gonkyburg era, where his collaborations with acclaimed artists like Andreas Saag helped to shape a unique sound. Embracing his artistic personas as Ernesto, Pinky Vääty and now ‘Ernesto & the Basement Gospel’ he has carved out a distinct path for himself over the last two decades, lending his remarkable voice to a diverse array of productions that feature prominent names in the industry such as Atjazz, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Jori Hulkkonen, Ten Walls, Alex Barck (Jazzanova) and Hyenah, among others.
