Celebrating the Journey: Kosheen, Markee Ledge and “Hide U" [2024 Reload] Remixes

As the electronic music landscape continues to evolve, the power of nostalgia combined with innovation keeps the spirit of classic tracks alive and thriving. This summer, Moksha Recordings, in partnership with AWAL distribution, reignites Kosheen’s classic "Hide U" with a selection of reinterpretations making up the '2024 Reload.’ This triplet of reimaginations of the iconic noughties club anthem bridges the gap between the past and the present, introducing fresh sounds while honouring the essence of the original.

Initially released in 2000, “Hide U” quickly became a staple, particularly within Fabio’s deep groove sets at Swerve. It evolved into a drum and bass anthem, gaining international acclaim and securing its place in the hearts of club-goers worldwide. Sian Evans’ haunting vocals, set against a backdrop of unique rolling beats and stuttering grooves, created an unforgettable experience that resonated deeply with audiences.

A New Era of Sound

The 2024 Reload features three distinct remixes, each offering a fresh take on the classic. Mozey’s mix starts by paying homage to the original before introducing a staccato, rhythmic, and metallic earworm that leads into a raucous soundscape. René LaVice’s remix takes a darker turn, twisting Sian’s vocals into a menacing drop that captures the conflicting emotions of the lyrics, building into a crescendo of euphoric bass. The Outrage and former Kosheen member Markee Ledge’s collaboration maintains the original beats while layering a haunting glockenspiel refrain, creating a rich, textured sound that complements Sian’s melodic vocals.

Kosheen's Legacy Continues

In an exclusive interview, Markee Ledge, the creator and founding member of Kosheen who has been separated from the group and focusing on his solo project since 2015, shared his thoughts on the enduring impact of “Hide U.” Reflecting on the song’s release, Markee said, “When we first put ‘Hide U’ out there, I don’t think any of us anticipated the impact it would have. It was raw and emotional, with this powerful energy that connected with people in a big way. We were just focused on making something authentic, something that spoke to us, and seeing how it resonated with so many others was incredible. It was the start of something big for us.”

For Markee, “Hide U” is more than just a track—it’s a piece of their journey. “To see it being celebrated and reimagined, especially after all these years, is humbling. It’s a reminder that music has a life of its own—it grows and evolves with the people who listen to it,” he added.

A Balance of Nostalgia and Innovation

Reinterpreting a classic like “Hide U” involves balancing nostalgia and innovation. “With the 2024 remix, we wanted to maintain the essence of the original while bringing in fresh elements that reflect where we are now creatively. It’s still ‘Hide U,’ but with a modern edge that speaks to today’s scene,” Markee explained. The remix process was about preserving the emotional intensity of the original track while experimenting with new textures and sounds.

Connecting with New Audiences

As the 2024 Reload hits the airwaves, Markee hopes the track will continue to resonate with longtime fans and new listeners. “Balancing nostalgia with innovation is always a challenge. You want to honour what made the track special in the first place, but you also need to keep it moving forward,” he noted. “It’s about respecting the past while embracing the future.”

The release of the 2024 Reload not only celebrates the journey that Kosheen and their fans have been on together but also invites a new generation to experience the magic of “Hide U.” As Markee aptly puts it, “This remix is for you—it’s about celebrating the journey we’ve all been on together. We hope these new mixes bring you as much joy and connection as the original did and that you continue to find something meaningful in the music.”

The legacy of “Hide U” lives on, pulsating through today’s dance floors, as it did in the past, connecting people through the universal language of music.
