Sisko Electrofanatik welcomes Boom Merchant to his record label Gain Plus, and the Irish born producer delivers a dark and raw techno EP titled Azteca.

Azteca features two tracks by Boom Merchant who recently relocated to Mexico after many years living in Scotland where he was a big part of Glasgow’s underground club scene.

Boom Merchant was resident at the Surge nightclub which is a late-night hotspot in Glasgow that’s known for its afterhours parties. He has also played international gigs in countries such as Germany and Japan.

This is the first time that Boom Merchant has featured on Sisko Electrofanatik’s record label, and he joins the imprint following popular releases on other imprints such as T78's Autektone Dark.

“Azteca” is a murky stalker of a track that has a lurching bassline that moves with unpredictable modulation, while the stripped back drums dominate with their shuffling rhythms. It’s a track that keeps it simple by finding a killer groove that rolls along with enough subtlety to make it feel hypnotic, while also keeping the listener/dance floor locked in.

“Rain God/War God” is a dark and ominous track with gritty drums and swelling synths that build tension as the track approaches a moment of tranquillity in the breakdown, before continuing the onslaught when the drums filter back in. This one is a bit of a slow burner, which builds suspense without dropping the energy or delivering an explosive moment. So, it’s a great DJ tool that keeps the crowd on tenterhooks before dropping the next banger.

Overall, it's a very functional techno EP that you can buy HERE.
