With Awake, Belgian producer K-Deey delivers a well-balanced and thoughtful EP that gently unfolds across six tracks of considered techno. Released via Gravitational Forces, a young but promising label from CMPND (BE), the project offers a polished blend of introspection and drive, equally suited to deep listening and late-night immersion.
The title track, “Awake,” introduces a raw but measured energy, and its jackin’ groove combined with twisting melody, feel grounded, setting the tone with clarity and control. “Pay Day” builds on this foundation with a deeper sense of contemplation, as dystopian textures and a steady bassline carve out a space that invites reflection rather than to overwhelm.
Marc Faenger’s remix of “Pay Day” steers things into a more cerebral direction. With stripped-back structure and cool mechanical detail, it quietly demands attention without ever raising its voice.
“Ring Twice” takes a more classic route, its rhythmic urgency nodding to old-school roots. CMPND (BE)’s remix, however, offers a more spacious interpretation, stretching the track into a hypnotic meditation filled with soft melancholy and restrained builds—a gentle shift in emotional temperature.
The closing track, “Mistral,” brings the EP full circle. Though more percussive and driving, its clean arrangement and sharp intent feel precise rather than chaotic. It’s a final nod to K-Deey’s mastery of restraint and tension.
Awake is an EP that reveals itself slowly, rewarding calm attention and reflective listening. It’s not about high drama, but about poise, presence, and the quiet power of control.
