Banksia drops stirring cut 'The Shire' - out now on his Ordinary Pleasures imprint

Support inc. Mixmag, dublab, Rinse, DMY, Reprezent, Balamii, SiriusXM, Triple J, KCRW

Banksia, an emerging producer and DJ based out of San Francisco, pushes on from a hugely successful debut EP with the next release on his newly-launched Ordinary Pleasures imprint. Having already turned in support and praise from Mixmag, Inverted Audio, DMY, Rinse FM, Balamii, dublab, Beats In Space, Sirius XM, KEXP and Reprezent FM, among others, new single ‘The Shire’ is set to solidify and showcase his sound, one which vividly speaks to a diverse background.

If you listen to my debut EP Tala, you can hear the synth work in both ‘Fela’ and ‘Sonore’. I feel it’s distinctive in capturing my influences, and with experimenting, the production techniques show how I play with sound by pitching, chopping, and looping sounds. ‘The Shire’ is a continuation of my exploratory synth work where I pitch the main lead in different ways, distort parts of it with a pulsating vocal over the top to keep the listener hooked. I also wanted to show that I’m not only a four-to-the floor producer, and went in for more of a breakbeat grab, while still maintaining some house elements because at the core that’s me!”

Banksia's sound is a fusion of rhythms and influences, with him being eager to celebrate the convergence of global music and culture. Hailing from a diverse background, he was born in Manchester, while his family would quickly move to Kitwe, Zambia, where he’d live until moving to the US to study. Born to Indian parents, he’d be immersed in India’s customs and traditions, many of which revolved around music, from the religious events with Hindu praise and worship to his mother’s love of Bollywood movies.

Also gaining momentum DJing in San Francisco’s scene, this year he’s been on the bill with Ewan McVicar, Mount Kimbie, and upcoming for him are dates with O’Flynn and Yung Singh.
