Drum and bass heavyweights 1991 and Subsonic have finally unleashed their much-anticipated rework of Ian van Dahl’s 1999 anthem ‘Castles In The Sky’. After months of dominating festival main stages at Ultra, Tomorrowland, and EDC Orlando, the track is officially out today on Armada Music. Stream it here.
Pairing Martine Theeuwen (aka Marsha)’s iconic vocal line with a dream-like reinterpretation of the original melody, this new version stays true to the essence of the classic while injecting the signature high-energy drum and bass elements that define both artists’ styles. With support from industry frontrunners like Sub Focus and Dimension, ‘Castles In The Sky’ is poised to become a staple in DJ sets worldwide.
1991 shared his excitement about the release, stating: “Two years on and ‘Castles In The Sky’ is finally being released! This collab has taken various forms and has been played out countless times over the past couple of years, but it’s now ready to be put out into the world. We’re so happy that you all can finally listen to it in full.”
Subsonic added: “I was introduced to ‘Castles In The Sky’ growing up through my parents—it’s one of their favourites from the era and coincidentally, also one of mine. It's so good to see our spin on it finally released to the world.”
The timing couldn’t be better for 1991, who is fresh off headlining an Australian tour with Culture Shock. Known for his ability to breathe new life into classics, ‘Castles In The Sky’ follows his reworks of Supermode’s ‘Tell Me Why’ and Mason & Princess Superstar’s ‘Perfect (Exceeder)’—tracks that have made waves at major festivals, with the latter played by Armin van Buuren at Ultra Miami 2024 and David Guetta at Tomorrowland.
As a quarter of drum and bass supergroup WORSHIP (incl. Sub Focus, Dimension & Culture Shock), 1991 is also set to make history later this year by headlining the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre—the first-ever drum and bass act to do so.
‘Castles In The Sky’ is out now on Armada Music.
